This site collects as little as it can and says exactly what that is. Three services are involved in running the site and the newsletter. A fourth, Supabase, holds the answers already given to a backer preferences form that has since been discontinued, described below.
Hosting: Vercel. Serving the pages produces standard server logs: the IP address of the request, the browser's user agent, the page requested and the time. Vercel keeps these to operate the service and defend it against abuse. An IP address is personal data; it is held in those logs on Vercel's retention schedule and nowhere else, is not used to build a profile of you, and is not joined to anything below.
Measurement: Plausible. Visits are counted with Plausible Analytics. It sets no cookies, stores no personal data, and uses no cross-site identifier. What it records is that a page was viewed, from which country, on what kind of device, and which of the site's own events fired (a subscribe, an issue read to the end). It cannot tell one visitor from another across days.
Measurement, second count: Vercel Web Analytics. The host's own visit counter, loaded from this site's domain. It sets no cookie either; it derives a visitor identifier from the request that is discarded after a day, and it records the same page views and the same named events as Plausible. Two counters, so a number can be checked against another.
Forecasting: one sign-in cookie. If you submit a forecast and confirm your email, the site sets one cookie, rk_fc, so you stay signed in for 90 days. It holds a signed account reference and nothing else, cannot be read by scripts, and is not used for measurement or advertising. Readers who don't forecast never get it. Signing out or deleting your account removes it. Stored with your account: your email, nickname, forecasts and scores, held in Supabase (United States). Your email is never shown; the leaderboard shows your nickname only, and you can hide it. Deleting your account erases your email and nickname; your past numbers stay in the crowd totals with nothing linking them to you.
This is why the site carries no consent banner: nothing here needs consent.
The list: Resend. If you subscribe, the form posts to this site's own endpoint, which stores your email address with Resend for one purpose: sending you the issues, grade notices, and on occasion news about Reckoning itself. The address is held unconfirmed until you click the link in a confirmation email; an unconfirmed address receives nothing else and is deleted after seven days. It is not sold, shared, or joined to the analytics. Open and click tracking are switched off. Unsubscribing removes the address from the list in one click, from the link at the foot of every email.
The backer list: discontinued. The backer preferences form closed on 22 October 2026 and accepts no new answers. Answers already submitted stay in a private database hosted by Supabase, read only by me, not sold or shared, and not joined to the newsletter list. They are retained only until they are transferred or until the person who submitted them asks for them to be deleted. The removal link in the confirmation email still deletes them in one click, or write to contact@reckoningbrief.com.
Nothing else. No advertising pixels, no session replay, no embedded social widgets, no fingerprinting.
Vercel and Plausible operate in the European Union and the United States; Resend and Supabase in the United States. Each publishes its own privacy policy and its terms for transfers out of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom; those documents, not this page, govern what each processor does.
Email: unsubscribe from any issue, or write to contact@reckoningbrief.com and the address is removed. Server logs expire on Vercel's retention schedule and cannot be attributed to you by us. There is no analytics profile to delete.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable form. Your email address, and your backer preferences if you submitted them, are the only such data this publication holds, and the answer to every one of those requests is the same: write to contact@reckoningbrief.com and it is done.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to have it deleted, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. This publication does not sell or share personal information.
